This week’s Booking Through Thursday question asks:

What’s the largest, thickest, heaviest book you ever read? Was it because you had to? For pleasure? For school?

 So far, the largest, thickest, heaviest book I've ever read is Maia by Richard George Adams.  I picked this book up at a library sale where a crate of books cost about 5 bucks.  I read this book of 1,026 pages back in September 2008 when I first joined Librarything and began cataloging my books.  It was also my first review:

Delightfully looong tale of a young girl sold into the sex slave trade for betraying her mother. She becomes involved with a lot of upper class people, her naivety, charm and beauty leads her to be involved in dangerous and exciting situations--including becoming a revered heroine, at the cost of again, betraying someone close to her. Lots of adventure, a little kinkiness (lol), some murder, war, and suffering. Amazing descriptions make you feel as if you are right there along Maia. There are many different characters and places with unusual names which can be difficult to keep track of at times. The book does include a map and list of characters for handy reference--you will definitely need it! Nice ending too, that doesn't leave you disappointed.

Teaser Tuesday~Executive Power

Today, Barack Obama was sworn in as our 44th president of the United States of America so I thought it fitting to select my two teaser lines from a political thriller I am reading, Vince Flynn's Executive Power. Executive Power is the 4th book in the series featuring the dangerous, no holds barred, CIA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp.

They would want to sweep it under the rug and have the offenders in question transferred to different jobs. That could not be allowed to happen this time, and Kennedy knew Rapp was the one man in Washington who would tell the president in the roughest and most graphic terms that heads needed to roll. (pg. 31)

Uh oh, there's a traitor in the house. I can't wait to see what happens when Mitch Rapp does find out. He recently married the love of his life and has been trying to get out of the field so he can focus on his relationship, have a few kids, and protect his wife from being targeted just because she's married to the man most wanted by the world's deadliest assassins. His wife has urged him to take on more of an administrative/strategist role and he's promised her he will do so. Something tells me he's not going to get settled into that desk job any time soon. Now, who do you think he wants to appease more, the president or his wife? LOL!

Happy New Year, everyone!

So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all?

Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!

My New Year Reading Resolution is to successfully complete my ten book challenges. I'm feeling pretty confident that it's a resolution I can actually accomplish by year's end. Definitely easier than diet and excercise resolutions, and more fun too!

Specific books I plan to read are listed here, but I am most looking forward to finishing up the Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn and reading the Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama.
